Questions about our laboratory
Do all blood tests require fasting?
No. Only some do, such as glucose and cholesterol tests, usually after 8 to 12 hours without food.
Why do some blood tests require fasting?
Food and drinks pass into the blood and can change the levels those tests measure, such as sugar and fats.
Can I drink water while fasting?
Yes, plain water, which can make blood easier to draw. Coffee, juice, soda, gum and smoking can affect the results.
