Questions about mammograms

What is the difference between a screening and a diagnostic mammogram?

A screening mammogram looks for changes in women who have no symptoms. A diagnostic mammogram evaluates a specific concern or follows up on a screening result. Clear Imaging offers both.

Does a mammogram use radiation?

Yes. A mammogram uses a low dose of X-rays.

What other women's imaging do you offer?

Ultrasound, including OB ultrasound, and bone density (DEXA) testing, at the same location.

Why is the breast compressed?

Compression keeps the breast still so the image does not blur, evens out the tissue so all of it can be seen, and allows a lower X-ray dose.
